Recently, IPC released the statistical survey results of printed circuit boards (PCBs) in North America for May 2023. The order to shipment ratio is 0.89. The total shipment volume of PCB in North America in May 2023 increased by 6.7% compared to the same month last year. Compared to last month, the shipment volume in May decreased by 1.9%.
The PCB order volume in May increased by 4.1% compared to the same month last year. The booking volume in May increased by 6.7% compared to the previous month.
The North American PCB market looks quite balanced this month. Shipments remain strong, and we see the first year-on-year increase in bookings since November 2022, "said Shawn DuBravac, Chief Economist at IPC.
Data Interpretation
The calculation method for order to shipment ratio is to divide the order value of the past three months by the sales revenue of the IPC survey sample company during the same period. A ratio exceeding 1.00 indicates that current demand exceeds supply, which is a positive indicator of sales growth in the next three to twelve months. A ratio less than 1.00 indicates the opposite.
